And so it begins: Daily Science Dose
Welcome to the beginning of my new blog - Daily Science Dose! Whatever shall we start with? Tonight, I will sleep on it, and tomorrow we shall have the first official topic.
Will it be tuberculosis? XDR TB might be fun, what with the exciting, federally-enforced quarantine action. How about the new bird flu over in Wales that’s spreading from person to person? Maybe we’ll start with monotremes - the other-other kind of mammal.
Speaking of mammals, I should probably start with some sort of picture, no? Let’s go with some goats. Goats are placental mammals, just like us. Presumably. I mean, you could be a robot or something, but I’m going to assume that you’re a placental mammal. A primate, no less.

Goats are not primates, but they are quite friendly and fun to hang with.

Ah, here’s what my good friend Wikipedia has to say about goats:
“A goat is useful both alive and dead.”
Hm. I’m sure that’s true. What else can we learn of my friend, our friend, the goat?
Here’s a better one from Wikipedia:
“Animals with pupils like goats and sheep may have evolved horizontal pupils because better vision in the vertical plane may be beneficial in mountainous environments.”
I have always wanted to know about goats and their eyeballs. For a more detailed discussion of goats and their horizontally-slitted pupils, try this link: Because Tim Susman says so.

Funtimes! Sadly, I must let my pupils rest now. Otherwise, I’ll never dream up tomorrow’s post topic.
Gosh, pupils…perhaps it’ll be mydriasis for tomorrow. Here’s a bit to get you going:

ps - a doctor did that to my eyes. It was all on the up and up.

pps - Thanks, Yun photo, for the goat eye pic!
